FC Utrecht will strengthen itself with Taylor Booth after this season, reports The Telegraph Friday evening. The American right-back annex midfielder will come over from Bayern Munich in the summer. Because his contract ends in Germany, Utrecht does not have to pay a transfer fee. According to the newspaper, Booth could sign a new contract with Bayern, but prefers a move to the Eredivisie for his development.

Booth, 20, made the switch from Real Salt Lake’s youth academy to Bayern’s youth academy in January 2019. He made his debut in June 2020 on behalf of the second team at the third tier of Germany. Since then, Booth has made nineteen appearances for the U23 team. In August 2021, he was part of the selection of the first team for the first-round match against Bremer SV in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. In the end Booth was allowed to participate as a substitute for 22 minutes. It is his only appearance for the first team so far.

By attracting Booth, Utrecht is responding to expected changes in the selection, reports The Telegraph. The newspaper points to the expiring contracts of Simon Gustafson and Joris van Overeem, and the possible interest of other clubs in Adam Maher and Bart Ramselaar. Utrecht focuses more often on transfer-free players and in this way brought in players such as Quinten Timber (Ajax), Adam Maher (AZ) and Django Warmerdam (FC Groningen).
