Fiorentina beat AS Roma in the sub-top of the Serie A on Monday evening. In Florence, two early goals from the home team proved decisive: 2-0. Roma actually didn’t get involved the entire game and gave Conference League opponent Feyenoord little reason to get anxious in the run-up to the final. In the ranking, Roma and Fiorentina both have 59 points; based on goal difference, Roma is sixth and Fiorentina seventh. The number six enters the group stage of the Europa League and the number seven enters the play-off round of the Conference League.
Fiorentina had lost the previous four official matches, but went into battle against Roma. In the first 25 minutes made la Viola no fewer than three goals, the first two of which were declared valid. The opening goal came from a penalty kick. In the second minute, Rick Karsdorp gave a tap at the edge of the penalty area in the direction of Nicolás González, who is sitting towards the ground. It was not entirely clear that there was contact, but referee Marco Guida saw a violation and concluded that the violation was within the box.

González took care of the penalty and chose the left corner in a cool way. Giacomo Bonaventura was not put in the way during an attack over half of Roma, entered the penalty area and pushed the ball behind goalkeeper Rui Patrício. Then Bonaventura also seemed to make the 3-0, but in the run-up to the goal there was an offside situation with assister Cristiano Biraghi. Roma looked powerless and created hardly any serious chances for the connecting goal in the first half.
Roma looked lifeless and uninspired in the second half. Fiorentina had no trouble holding onto the lead, but Roma still had something to celebrate. Leonardo Spinazzola made his appearance as a substitute in the final phase. The left-back was one of Italy’s stars at last summer’s European Championship, until he tore his Achilles tendon in the quarter-final against Belgium on 2 July. 311 days later, Spinazzola returned to the field.
