If it is up to Bayern Munich, Sadio Mane will play his matches in Germany from next season. The attacker has a contract with Liverpool until mid-2023, but Bayern want to end that prematurely. Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic is said to have already held talks with Mane’s agent, reports the German sky

Bayern was surprisingly knocked out by Villarreal in the quarterfinals of the Champions League this season and wants to come out stronger in the billion-dollar ball next season. After Bayern became champions of the Bundesliga for the tenth time in a row two weeks ago, their goal for next season is to win ‘the Cup with the Big Ears’ again. Mané is the first player to help the Bavarian club with that mission. The attacker is in his sixth season with Liverpool and is only one year away.

Last weekend, Salihamidzic is said to have held the first talks with the management of the Senegalese. Liverpool themselves do not appear to have sat down with Mane to discuss a contract extension, as the priority would be to sign another star player, Mohamed Salah, for longer. Like Mane, the Egyptian is still stuck in Liverpool for one more season and will therefore presumably come to the table with the English club before his teammate. Earlier, Salah did not want to say too much about a possible contract extension. “But what I can say is that there are a lot of things that people don’t know about,” he told Sky Sports

Mane has so far scored 20 goals and 4 assists in 46 games this season. Liverpool are in both the Champions League final, where they will face Real Madrid on May 28, and the FA Cup final, where Chelsea will face off on May 14. In the competition, Jürgen Klopp’s team will play three more matches, in which they must make up for three points against leader Manchester City. Mane won the African Cup with Senegal earlier this year by beating Salah’s Egypt in the final. Later this year, Mané will play against the Dutch national team at the World Cup in Qatar.
