The European Indoor Football Championship will be the first Dutch sporting event in 2022 at which the public will be present. Due to the new corona measures, sports events within a maximum of 1,250 people apply. The largest European Futsal Championship ever can therefore welcome fans in the last round of the group stage, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final. Wednesday evening there will be spectators in the stands for the first time.

“Fantastic news”, says tournament director Gijs de Jong. “We have always held out hope for easing and continued to work in the background with different scenarios. Finally, the doors can open to the public. Not only for the fans this is the chance to experience the European Championship up close, but also great news for all teams, municipalities and everyone who has worked hard for this all along. Futsal deserves a podium and I am happy that we can finally open the doors, even if it is for a limited number of visitors.”

UEFA Futsal EURO 2022 will take place in the Netherlands this year, with the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam and MartiniPlaza in Groningen as playing locations. The organization emphasizes that keeping the corona virus out of the door is always the highest priority. “We are extremely happy with the arrival of the public, but ensuring the safety and health of everyone involved in UEFA Futsal EURO 2022 remains the highest priority for UEFA and the KNVB,” De Jong continues.
