Erik ten Hag has announced the line-up of his Manchester United for the league opener against Brighton & Hove Albion. Cristiano Ronaldo, despite the practice problems at his club, starts on the reserve bench and is joined there by Tyrell Malacia, who has therefore not been favored at left-back. Lisandro Martínez does play.

Luke Shaw is a left-back and keeps Malacia there on the bench. The Englishman has played at least twenty times a year as a basic player in recent seasons. He also came to 21 caps for England, with which he was already a formidable competitor for the back who came over from Feyenoord. Martínez, who came over from Ajax this summer for a transfer fee of up to 67 million euros, is in the base. Raphaël Varane is therefore on the bench next to Ten Hag, Ronaldo and Malacia.

Due to the injury of Anthony Martial, who made an excellent impression in the preparation, Ten Hag also had to move with pawns in the vanguard anyway. In the end, Bruno Fernandes is the lucky one, as he is at the forefront of the race alongside Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho. the Mancunians posted and will play as false number nine. Donny van de Beek is reserve and knows that Scott McTominay, Fred and Christian Eriksen are his competitors for a spot in midfield. After all, that trio is playing.

Manchester United cannot afford to lose points in the opening game of the new Premier League season. Competitors such as Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have already won before and Manchester City will also come into action later. That team will visit West Ham United. Liverpool is so far the only English top club that has dropped points: they drew 2-2 against Fulham on Saturday and are therefore immediately behind on match day one.
