Ange Postecoglou must become the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur, various English media report, including The Independent. After it became clear on Thursday morning that Arne Slot will not be drawing in London, we switched gears the Spurs directly to the successful manager of Celtic. Postecoglou has an expiring contract in Glasgow, so the Londoners think they have a good chance with the Greek Australian.

The 57-year-old Postecoglou is fourth choice, after Tottenham has previously fallen short of Julian Nagelsmann (clubless), Xabi Alonso (Bayer Leverkusen) and Slot (Feyenoord). The veteran manager won the Scottish double with Celtic in the past two seasons. As a result, Postecoglou is loved by the supporters of the reigning national champion, but the coach is ambitious and would like to get back to work in the Premier League. In addition to Postecoglou, Rúben Amorim (Sporting Portugal) and Luis Enrique (clubless) are high on the list in North London, but they currently seem unfeasible for the Spurs.

NOSjournalist Jeroen Grueter, fan of Celtic, tipped Postecoglou last Monday as the ideal successor to Slot in the NOSfootball podcast. “He has done a fantastic job and actually plays football in the spirit of Arne Slot. As far as I’m concerned, he’s the most logical replacement. He has done fantastic work there for two years and may be ready for the next step,” said Grueter in de NOSfootball podcast. Now it looks like Postecoglou himself will become Tottenham’s manager, thanks in part to Slot’s surprise rejection.

Postecoglou started his coaching career in 1996 at South Melbourne, where he has also been active as a footballer for years. Through various youth teams in Australia, the manager ended up at Panachaiki in his native Greece. After employment with Whittlesea Zebras, Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory, Postecoglou became national coach of Australia in 2013, where he remained until 2017. Three years of service in Japan later, the coach signed with Celtic in 2021, where he is working on his own success story.
