The PSV supporters association would like Ruud van Nistelrooij to quickly clarify his sudden departure from the people of Eindhoven. The coach decided to leave on Wednesday because he no longer felt internal support. Rob Bogaarts, the chairman of the supporters association, would like the ex-trainer to clarify.

The reason for Van Nistelrooij’s departure would be the unrest that was recently brought out by The Telegraph. The former footballer would also have felt too little support from PSV. “It also came as a surprise to us and it feels like a big disappointment,” Bogaarts begins in conversation with it General Journal. “Ruud is a top-class PSV player and he has experienced everything in the football world. Yet something happened that touched him enormously. It would be good for the peace around the club if he came out with that.”

It is also striking that Van Nistelrooij resigned in the days before the crucial match against AZ in the context of qualifying for the preliminary rounds of the Champions League. “The moment surprised us,” says the chairman of the supporters association. “It’s bad timing. A lot depends on the match against AZ, also because of the financial possibilities of the club. The tranquility within the club has always been an important strength of PSV. That much less came out with us than with Ajax or Feyenoord. PSV always was steady. We have not seen that in recent years, just look at the departure of Mark van Bommel and John de Jong, for example.”

Bogarts also does not know what exactly happened. “Ruud is tried and tested. He knows that in the football world things are occasionally leaked, that is part of it. Ruud does not happen overnight and yet he makes this decision.” Technical director Earnest Stewart spoke on Wednesday afternoon during an inserted press conference about the moment Van Nistelrooij announced his departure. That happened at 9.40 am, while the selection was already informed five minutes later. “He was very determined in his decision. Then you can imagine that it goes very quickly in four to five minutes.”
