Giovanni van Bronckhorst has good papers to become the new Rangers trainer, the bookmakers are convinced. The former coach of Feyenoord, who has a past as a player for the Scottish top club, is favorite to become Steven Gerrard’s successor. The former midfielder is in turn on his way to Aston Villa.

Van Bronckhorst therefore seems to have a good chance of being approached by Rangers. Bookmakers are currently paying about five times the stake for the former the Dutch international as the new manager of the reigning Scottish champion. Former Chelsea coach Frank Lampard (seven times), ex-Norwich City manager Alex Neil (seven times) and current Aberdeen coach Derek McInnes (eight times) are also among the favorites.

Since his dismissal from the Chinese Guangzhou R&F in December 2020, Van Bronckhorst has been without a club. The former left back previously worked successfully as a trainer of Feyenoord for four seasons and in 2017 became national champion with the Rotterdam club. Van Bronckhorst also twice won the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Scale with Feyenoord. As a footballer, he played for Rangers for three years from 1998, with which he won two national titles, among other things.

Aston Villa said goodbye to Dean Smith last Sunday, who was sacked after five league defeats in a row. According to the Guardian shall the Villans contact Gerrard on Wednesday or Thursday, who is interested in a move to the Premier League. Villa would have to pay a transfer fee of 2.3 million euros to Rangers, which does not form a block for owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens. Gerrard has been working as a trainer of Rangers since 2018, the club he led to the first league title in ten years last season.
