Internazionale has spilled expensive points in the battle for a Champions League ticket. Went to visit Spezia in Nerazzurri down 2-1. Internazionale made no less than 28 attempts, but only Romelu Lukaku managed to find the net through a penalty kick. Spezia only had four shots in the game, but so it won. The club from Milan is still second in Serie A, but could drop to third place if Lazio wins next weekend.

Internazionale were awarded a penalty early in the match. Lautaro Martinez went behind the ball, but his attempt was turned by Bartlomiej Dragowski. Thanks to the missed penalty, Martinez has now missed four of his eight penalties taken for Internazionale since the 2021/22 season. Both teams went to the dressing rooms 0-0. After the break, AC Milan mercenary Daniel Maldini opened the score for the home club. The midfielder scored on a pass from M’Bala Nzola.

Seven minutes before the end of regular time, Internazionale were awarded another penalty. This time Lukaku was allowed to try to redeem the penalty. He succeeded, so that Internazionale could still hunt for victory. Three minutes later, however, substitute Denzel Dumfries committed a foul in the penalty area. The right back jumped awkwardly into Viktor Kovalenko’s back, after which referee Daniele Martinelli put the ball on the spot. The penalty was then used by Nzola, who thus determined the final score at 2-1.
