Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig did not make a mistake in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon. The two teams were too strong for TSG Hoffenheim (0-1) and Eintracht Frankfurt (2-1) respectively and therefore continue to compete for the top spots in Germany. Dortmund even takes the lead with the three-pointer, although Bayern Munich can take over again on Sunday evening after the top match against 1. FC Union Berlin. Leipzig rises to fourth place due to the home win, four points behind Dortmund.

TSG Hoffenheim 0-1 Borussia Dortmund
The away team started the game well and became dangerous within ten minutes through Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Marco Reus, among others, but Hoffenheim held on thanks to good defensive work. The first and perhaps best opportunity for the home team came after fifteen minutes through a scrimmage. Several Hoffenheim players fired at Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel’s goal, but the Swiss managed to parry the ball time and time again. In the end, Ozan Kabak had the perfect opportunity to work inside on the goal line, but again Kobel managed to keep the ball out of the goal.

The opening goal would fall a few minutes before the break. Reus passed from the left flank, after which Julian Brandt ducked, luckily got the ball on his back and to his own surprise saw it disappear into the net: 0-1. Dortmund thought to double the lead fifteen minutes after the start of the second company via Marius Wolf, but the video referee would eventually put a stop to that. The visitors came out quickly on the counter via Raphaël Guerreiro, Jude Bellingham, Brandt and Wolf. Brandt then gave wide to Wolf, who hit the short corner. However, the video referee disallowed the goal because of a foul by Nico Schlotterbeck in an earlier phase of the attack. The visitors managed to hold their own in the final phase, with Donyell Malen as a substitute, and therefore take over the lead (for the time being) from Bayern.

RB Leipzig – Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1
The home supporters did not have to wait very long for Leipzig’s opening goal. Timo Werner was already accurate after six minutes. The German striker was sent deep by Emil Forsberg, then almost stumbled when he dribbled into the penalty area, but was able to outwit Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp: 1-0. Five minutes before the break, the roles were reversed and Forsberg was accurate and Werner was the declarant. Dominik Szoboszlai saw the latter go deep on the left flank and gave the ball just the right speed. Werner was then able to lay wide on Forsberg, who did not fail for an open goal: 2-0.

Frankfurt came out of the dressing room well and was close to the connection goal several times in the first fifteen minutes after the break. A good effort from Jesper Lindström was saved by goalkeeper Janis Blaswich, who played 110 games for Heracles Almelo before leaving for Leipzig on a free transfer. The goalie had to come into action again a few minutes later after a shot by Randal Kolo Muani, but a bet by Djibril Sow did disappear into the home team’s goal. The Swiss midfielder fired a fantastic cross from Aurélio Buta in the top left corner: 2-1. There was no more scoring in the final phase.
