PSV wants to say goodbye to Maximiliano Romero and Timo Baumgartl this summer, journalist Rik Elfrink knows from the Eindhovens Dagblad. That will be accompanied by a huge loss of millions on both players. The acquisition of Romero cost PSV no less than eleven million euros in 2018, while Baumgartl even paid twelve million euros a year later. PSV hopes to get rid of the currently loaned contract players after this season, but is expected to see only a pittance of the purchase amount.

The final farewell to Romero and Baumgartl will be painful, as the two were brought to the Philips Stadium with high expectations. Romero, who currently plays on a rental basis for the Argentinian Racing Club, is still fixed until mid-2024, but has no future in Eindhoven. The 24-year-old striker suffered a muscle injury last week while cheering for a goal by a teammate. In total, Romero played only seventeen games in the main squad of PSV, in which he scored one goal and two assists. Transfer market estimates its current market value at around 2.8 million euros.

Baumgartl will play on a rental basis for 1. FC Union Berlin this season. The 27-year-old German has now fully recovered from the diagnosis of testicular cancer and is fully training with his club. However, Baumgartl can hardly count on playing minutes, which is why Union has already informed the people of Eindhoven that it will not exercise the purchase option. PSV hopes to have a few million left over from the departure of the right leg, who according to Transfer market is worth about 3.5 million euros. Since his arrival in 2019, Baumgartl has played only 36 official matches for PSV, in which he managed to find the net twice.

Other mercenaries
The news that Elfrink has to report about the other mercenaries is a lot more positive. Shurandy Sambo will return to PSV after his loan to Sparta Rotterdam and is going for his chance at the right back position. Yorbe Vertessen, who currently plays for Union Sint-Gillis, also seems to be returning to Eindhoven, although there is strong interest in him from abroad. Richard Ledezma will continue to play for New York City FC until the end of this calendar year. Technical director Earnest Stewart has yet to make a decision about the future of Fredrik Oppegård (currently Go Ahead Eagles) and Jeremy Antonisse (currently FC Emmen).
