Dirk Kuijt has responded for the first time to his dismissal at ADO Den Haag. De Katwijker indicates on Instagram that he “did everything he could not to lose”. Kuijt has had a hard time all season in the Kitchen Champion Division, in which ADO can be found in seventeenth place. On Thursday, the club announced that the club and the 104-time international have parted ways.

“Unfortunately, my trainership at ADO Den Haag came to an early end,” Kuijt begins on the social medium. “I would especially like to thank Ignacio Beristain and owner David S. Blitzer for the opportunity they have given me. In recent months I have been able to build an intensive relationship with my staff and players. The results were unfortunately not as desired, but I will always keep the respect and trust in you and I wish the players and staff every success for the rest of the season.”

Kuijt then expresses the hope that the club will make the ‘right choices’. “Not only for the players and staff, but also for all loyal fans and people who have a warm heart for ADO Den Haag. The club ADO Den Haag and the supporters deserve to return to the highest level. Unfortunately, I have this match I didn’t win, but I did everything I could not to lose.” Kuijt only managed to win four of the sixteen games with his team, while four draws were played.

The dismissal means a difficult start for Kuijt as coach. After ending his active career, he became trainer of Feyenoord Under 19. In his first season as head coach, Kuijt lost the lead on the last matchday and thus the national title to direct competitor Ajax, which was trained by John Heitinga. In the 2019/20 season, he participated in the A-selection under the wings of Jaap Stam as part of his Professional Football Coach training. After the dismissal of Stam and the appointment of Dick Advocaat, Kuijt also disappeared from the first team.
