Barcelona are still unable to register their signings for La Liga. According to the Spanish sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo the board of the Spanish football league believes that the Catalans do not yet comply with all financial rules. LaLiga would therefore have informed Barcelona that the club must first sell one or more players.

Barcelona strengthened itself this summer with Raphinha (58 million euros), Jules Koundé (50 million euros), Robert Lewandowski (45 million euros) and the transfer-free Franck Kessié and Andreas Christensen, who came over from AC Milan and Chelsea respectively. In addition, Sergi Roberto and Ousmane Dembele recently extended their contracts, which means that they are also seen as new players. In order for all these players to participate in the Spanish League, they must be registered. But to ensure that those registrations are completed, Barça must first get their financial house in order, according to LaLiga.

Barcelona has already sold part of the shares in Barça Studios this summer and asked several players for a salary cut. For example, chairman Joan Laporta gave in an interview with The New York Times this week that he would like to see Frenkie de Jong hand in salary. In addition, according to Spanish media, Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique have also been asked to give up part of their salary.

Besides hoping for a salary cut, it would also be a godsend for Barcelona if it can sell players. De Jong’s name has been mentioned for weeks, but Martin Braithwaite and Samuel Umtiti would also be allowed to leave. In addition, Mundo Deportivo the name of Memphis Depay, who, according to Fabrizio Romano, called in his lawyers last week to negotiate the terms of a possible departure from the Spanish club. Meanwhile, it will be a race against time for Barcelona to have everyone available for the first league game against Rayo Vallecano, which is already on August 13.
