Sven Mislintat still believes that there was not much wrong with his purchasing policy at Ajax. The technical director, who was dismissed in October, claimed this during a 'strong confrontation' with De Telegraaf journalists Jeroen Holtrop and Marius Maurits in Germany. Mislintat believes that three or four of his acquired players have already proven themselves to be good enough.

The director, who is currently in discussions with Borussia Dortmund about a return, bought twelve new players for Ajax in the summer of 2023 for 115 million euros. Mislintat gave only one interview to the German branch of Sky Sports. Furthermore, he avoided the media.

The two journalists from The Telegraph traveled to Germany with a camera to confront Mislintat. After 'a search', the German was found and asked a few questions on the public road in front of his home.

The Telegraph published a transcript of the short conversation in the Monday edition of the morning newspaper. “Could we speak to you for a moment?” the journalists opened the conversation. “No, not a chance,” Mislintat replied. “This is private here, it's very annoying what you're doing. KPMG provided the answers. I'm not interested in an interview. Why would I? It will explain itself.”

Mislintat believes that his reputation has not been damaged by his employment with Ajax. “There is nothing wrong with my reputation. The only one who ruined my reputation is one of your colleagues.”

The dismissed director is then asked how he views the current situation of the people of Amsterdam. “He (John van 't Schip, ed.) doesn't even play with players we bought. It hasn't been my job since September, I think. We'll see in a few years how the players are. Not yet.”

The journalists also express their surprise as to why Mislintat left like 'a thief in the night' after his dismissal. “Your newspaper has made me a thief in the night. Your newspaper, one of your colleagues,” is their response.

Mislintat believes that three or four of his signings have already proven themselves at Ajax. “Look at my track record, look at VfB Stuttgart after four years,” he refers to the Bundesliga club that is currently in an impressive third place in Germany.

The German still believes that his purchases were not the problem at Ajax. “You really think the players are the problem? And that says it all. Are there other problems? Yes, of course.”
