Bayern Munich will have to do without Lucas Hernandez for the time being. The 26-year-old defender injured his groin during the Champions League match with Barcelona (2-0 win) and will therefore be sidelined for several weeks, the German top club announced via the official channels.

Hernández proved his worth on Tuesday of the Rekordmeister by nodding in a corner from Joshua Kimmich from close range against Barcelona after fifty minutes. Bayern eventually booked a 2-0 victory in their own Allianz Arena via Leroy Sané. Hernández played the Champions League match, but medical examination now shows that he has suffered a groin injury. According to BILD Hernández has been out for at least six weeks.

Bayern’s defense did not come out unscathed anyway. Benjamin Pavard had to be replaced by Noussair Mazraoui after 20 minutes after a collision with Marcos Alonso, while Dayot Upamecano was kicked to the knee. However, both French defenders will resume training in the course of the next few days.

Hernandez’s injury means good news for De Ligt, who sees an important competitor disappear. The 38-time international of the Dutch has been the center of Bayern in recent matches, alternating with Upamecano or Hernández, but had to settle for a place on the bench against Barcelona.
