Bayern Munich dealt with FC Augsburg quite smoothly on Sunday afternoon: 3-1. In its own Allianz Arena, coach Thomas Tuchel’s team created relatively little, but an own goal by Felix Uduokhai and a penalty kick by Harry Kane made it 2-0 at halftime. After the break, Kane made it 3-0 with a convincing shot from close range. Dion Beljo made sure that Bayern had to swallow its first goal of the season just in time. Bayern is still clear after two games and takes the lead in the Bundesliga on the basis of the goal difference. Augsburg is twelfth with three points.

Tuchel chose to let Matthijs de Ligt start on the bench, just like last week against Werder Bremen (0-4). The heart of the defense consisted of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae. Just like Ryan Gravenberch, De Ligt came in ten minutes before the end. Noussair Mazraoui was in the base in his trusted right back position. The fast trio Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sané and Kingsley Coman had to serve striker Kane. On the side of Augsburg, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw was missing due to a toe injury. Sven Michel and Mergim Berisha formed the striker couple of the visitors.

Bayern Munich played a mediocre first half. The team hardly came up with any really serious chances, while Augsburg lurked on the counter. Ermedin Demirovic had a great chance after half an hour of play. The Bosnian saw his attempt fly just wide of the target. On the other hand, Leon Goretzka saw his shot saved by Finn Dahmen. Moments later it was still a hit for Bayern. Serge Gnabry’s shot ended up via Dahmen against Uduokhai, who just couldn’t prevent the ball from ending up behind his own goal line: 1-0. After hands from Niklas Dorsch in his own sixteen, Bayern already had the chance to close the game before the break. Kane took his responsibility and hit the penalty hard through the middle: 2-0. Mergim Berisha was still close to 2-1 in stoppage time, but he headed over.

After the break, it was clear to both teams that the game was actually played. Just like in the opening phase of the first half, Bayern created little, although it came close to 2-0 halfway through the second half. Gnabry, however, saw his header beautifully turned by Dahmen. The goalkeeper seemed to have to fish a little later, were it not for the fact that Dayot Upamecano saw his effort go wide from close range via a defender. Sané was also very close to 3-0. The winger moved towards the box from the right and saw his hard icicle shatter against the post.

Kane then made it 3-0. The Englishman hit with a subtle punt after a smart pass from Alphonso Davies. Kane failed to make his first Bundesliga hat-trick when he headed wide from close range. The last word was for Augsburg. A Demirovic through ball went through De Ligt’s legs perfectly into the loop of Beljo, who passed Sven Ulreich and tapped in: 3-1.
