Bayern Munich has also won its third group match in the Champions League. After victories over Internazionale and Barcelona, Viktoria Plzen also won on Tuesday evening: 5-0. Within just over twenty minutes, coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team had already scored three times, via Leroy Sané, Serge Gnabry and Sadio Mané. In the second half Sané and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting again ensure the final score. Bayern now proudly leads Group C with nine points from three matches, while the Czechs are last with zero points.

Compared to Bayern’s previous Champions League match, which was won 2-0 against Barcelona, Nagelsmann made five changes: Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt replaced Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez respectively in the defence, while Leon Goretzka and Ryan Gravenberch as defensive midfielders started. Against Barcelona it was Joshua Kimmich and Marcel Sabitzer. In the striker, Thomas Müller had to give up his place to Serge Gnabry. Plzen could not have midfielder Pavel Bucha against Bayern, who was shown red in the previous Champions League match against Internazionale (0-2 defeat). He was replaced by Modou N’Diaye.

Bayern made it clear to the Czechs early on that there was nothing to be gained in Munich: after thirteen minutes it was already 2-0. First Sané took care of the 1-0 with a nice long shot into the top corner, after which Gnabry remained cool eye to eye with goalkeeper Marián Tvrdonn and doubled the score. Plzen had barely recovered from those first two taps when the next one was already in: now it was Mané who was accurate, after a solo. Via Jamal Musiala it even seemed to be 4-0 ten minutes before half-time, but his goal was disallowed for offside.

Shortly after the break, the 4-0 still fell: Sané nicely took a long ball from Mané and left Tvrdonn without a chance. Just under ten minutes later, the Allianz Arena cheered again when Choupo-Moting made it 5-0 on a pass from Goretzka. After that, the German storm subsided somewhat, so that no more goals were scored in the last half hour and 5-0 was also the final score. Next Wednesday, Plzen will already have the opportunity to take revenge, when it receives Bayern at home.
