National coach Ronald Koeman will face many difficult choices in the coming months. For the time being, the selector of the Dutch national team is allowed to take 23 players with him to the European Championship in Germany, but after a lobby from Koeman, UEFA will decide in the coming weeks whether national coaches may select not 23, but 26 players for the final tournament.

Koeman has a lot to choose from, especially in his defense. The expectation is that the national coach will ultimately have to disappoint some big names. As captain of the Dutch team, Virgil van Dijk is certainly assured of his place in the European Championship selection, it is expected Football International.

This actually also applies to Nathan Aké, who at Manchester City can compete every week with attackers from the strongest competition in Europe. Aké is also multifunctional. He can play as a left wing-back, but also next to Van Dijk in a system with three central defenders. If Koeman opts for a 4-3-3 formation, the national coach can also deploy him as a left back or left central in the defense.

Lutsharel Geertruida also seems to be a certainty for Koeman due to his multifunctionality. The Feyenoord defender can even dream of a starting spot, as he regularly received the confidence of the national coach during the European Championship qualifying cycle.

Stefan de Vrij (Inter) and Matthijs de Ligt (Bayern Munich) must hope that Koeman can actually take 26 players with him to the European Championship. In that case, the national coach can easily double the positions at the back if he opts for a three-man defense.

Micky van de Ven gets through VI described as a DarkHorse who is in the race for a place in the European Championship selection of the Dutch national team. He has now made his mark in the Premier League and has undergone fantastic development after leaving FC Volendam in the summer of 2021.

Through Wolfsburg, the Wormer-born man has quickly become a permanent fixture in manager Ange Postecoglou's team. Van de Ven is very strong both defensively and on the ball and was recently measured as the fastest player in the Premier League.
