Latest update:

Simon Cziommer once tried to bring Oliver Glasner to Ajax, the former professional and current agent revealed on Sunday at Viaplay. The Austrian has been the trainer of Crystal Palace since February this year, but if it had been up to Cziommer, Glasner would have been in front of the group in Amsterdam.

The Palace team is discussed in the studio when footage of the match between them is shown the Eagles and Fulham on Saturday (1-1). Cziommer joins in.

“It's a shame that Glasner never became Ajax's coach,” says the German. “I tried that, to get him in there.”

Cedric van der Gun, also present in the studio, a former player for Ajax, ADO Den Haag and FC Utrecht, among others, notes that the football that Glasner usually has his teams play does not fit the typical Ajax playing style. The current Palace coach prefers to play in a 3-4-2-1 formation.

“But they eventually brought in the players to play that system, with Sosa and Gaaei,” Cziommer responds. This seems to make it clear that the agent attempted to bring Glasner to the Johan Cruijff ArenA last summer.

Presenter Koen Weijland asks Cziommer to which Ajax employee he tipped the Austrian. “That's not important, because he's no longer there.”

In the end, Glasner did not go to Ajax. He has been with Palace for the group since February, before which he was head coach of Eintracht Frankfurt, VfL Wolfsburg, LASK Linz and SV Ried. He won the Europa League with Frankfurt in the 2021/22 season.
