Juventus booked a narrow victory over AS Roma on Sunday evening. The duel in Turin – in which Rick Karsdorp was on the field for ninety minutes and Matthijs de Ligt was missing with a minor hamstring injury – ended with a goal from Moise Kean in a 1-0 victory for la Vecchia Signora. This was partly due to a curious moment shortly before half-time: referee Daniele Orsato failed to give an advantage, instead of a goal from Tammy Abraham, gave a penalty kick and saw Jordan Veretout miss it.

Mourinho returned to Turin on Sunday evening, where he is not particularly popular due to his past as a trainer of Internazionale. As the manager of Manchester United, he already got into a fight with Juventus supporters in 2018, by provocatively putting his hand behind his ear after the Champions League won 1-2 in response to the insults he sent to himself. say got thrown at his head. Roma got off to the best start at the reunion between Mourinho and Juventus, as the first opportunities came through Gianluca Mancini and Lorenzo Pellegrini for the Romans.

The fact that Juventus took the lead after sixteen minutes of play was therefore somewhat against the proportions. Moise Kean passed under a pass from Mattia De Sciglio, after which Rodrigo Bentancur was able to head. The midfielder headed the ball against Kean’s head, after which the ball disappeared into the goal behind goalkeeper Rui Patricio. Roma faced more setbacks in the early stages, as Nicolò Zaniolo had to be replaced by Stephan El Sharaawy early in the game with an injury.

However, on the stroke of half-time, Roma could and perhaps should have been level. Giorgio Chiellini lost the ball, after which the leather ended up at Henrikh Mkhitaryan via Abraham. Mkhitaryan was then knocked out by Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny and partly because of this, the leather came at the feet of Abraham, who scored. Referee Orsato had already whistled, however, which resulted in a penalty instead of a goal. Jordan Veretout, however, failed to level Roma and saw Szczesny make a save. Orsato, incidentally, would have made a mistake by not waiting for the attack and thus the advantage, but already whistling before Abraham shot the ball against the ropes.

Although the first good opportunity of the second half was for Juventus through a bicycle kick from Federico Bernardeschi, the home team mainly limited themselves to defending the lead after the break. However, Roma lacked attacking power for a long time to really create opportunities, apart from a dangerous long shot from Veretout. The biggest chance in the final phase came from a slip by Chiellini, who gave Bryan Cristante the opportunity to take a shot from the edge of the penalty area. However, his shot was cracked by Leonardo Bonucci. Partly because of this, the 1-0 lead remained intact and Juventus rises to seventh place in the Serie A, with one point less than number four Roma.
