Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest-paid athlete in the world for the first time since 2017 thanks to his lucrative move to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. The American business magazine Forbes reports that his annual salary almost doubled. The 38-year-old Portuguese star player would earn around 68 million euros.

To compile the ranking of the highest paid athletes in the world Forbes the salaries and sponsor income added together. Due to his transfer to Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo, including other income, can add almost 124 million euros per year. Lionel Messi currently has to do with more than 118 million euros at Paris Saint-Germian.

Kylian Mbappé is in third place. Messi’s teammate reportedly receives around 109 million euros. The 24-year-old Frenchman is therefore the youngest athlete in the top ten. Huge amounts of oil money are involved in Ronaldo’s salary as well as PSG’s star players. The top ten also includes NBA stars LeBron James, former tennis player Roger Federer, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, golfers Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson and Mexican boxer Canelo Álvarez.
