Not everyone at Atlético Madrid is entirely happy with the arrival of Memphis Depay. The Dutchman came over from Barcelona last winter and has now managed to fight in the base with the Madrilenians. However, that is at the expense of Álvaro Morata, who in an interview with the Spanish LA1 says he is not satisfied with his spare role.

“Depay has come here and he is doing very well,” admits the former striker of Juventus and Real Madrid, among others. “The team is running fine at the moment, so I will have to wait. For now I’m happy here, but if the situation stays like this I don’t know if I will play here next season. I will listen carefully to the club and the coach,” said the thirty-year-old attacker.

Depay has already scored three times in just 257 minutes for Atlético this season. The 86-time Oranje-international is therefore preferred by Diego Simeone, who keeps his club top scorer with twelve goals on the bench. If the situation does not change next season, Morata can return to Italy. Due to his wife’s Italian nationality, Morata has never ruled out a return to Serie A.

Captain national team
Earlier this week, brand new Spain national coach Luis de la Fuente announced that Morata will wear the captain’s armband of the national team this international period. The attacker takes over from Sergio Busquets, who announced the end of his international career after the World Cup in Qatar. With 61 appearances, Morata is the player with the most international matches in the current Spanish selection.
