Jasper Cillessen is in top form as the goalkeeper of Valencia. The the Dutch-international recently made a strong impression against Barcelona, although that game was still lost 2-3. Last weekend, the Dutch closing post kept the ‘zero’ in the home game against Real Valladolid (3-0). Cillessen made no fewer than nineteen saves, a season record for an away club in LaLiga. It all seems to be good news for national coach Frank de Boer, now that the European Championship is rapidly approaching.
ASH is very impressed by Cillessen’s performance in recent weeks. “Cillessen is Cillessen again”, headlines the Spanish newspaper after the victory over Valladolid, which will keep Valencia in LaLiga for another year anyway. “After the five injuries since his arrival and a few games in which he caused doubts, the Dutchman is back in his best form at the most ideal moment.” The important victory for Valencia was achieved by hits from Maxi Gómez (two) and Thierry Correia. “But the victory would not have been possible without Cillessen’s performance”, the excellent goalkeeper receives a big compliment.

“It seems that the Cillessen that Valencia brought in two years ago has finally arrived. Not only are his saves striking, his entire presence has strengthened the defense of Valencia,” continues. ASH the hymn of praise to Cillessen. “It is striking that Valencia only managed to win nine times this season and that Cillessen was under the bar in four of those victories. And that while he only played seven games this season.”
ASH expects the outstanding Cillessen to be put up for sale by the Valencia administration this summer, despite a continuing contract until mid-2023. “And not because of his qualities, but because he represents a certain financial value,” the Spanish newspaper clarifies. “And if he manages to continue this good form towards the European Championship, Valencia will undoubtedly have even more chances for a lucrative transfer.” Cillessen was acquired from Barcelona for 35 million euros in mid-2019. For the same amount, fellow goalkeeper Neto went the other way two years ago.
