Chelsea recovered on Saturday from the half-misstep just before the international match. Two weeks after the disappointing draw to Burnley (1-1), manager Thomas Tuchel’s team were 0-3 too strong for Leicester City, who had not lost one of their previous three home games with the Londoners until Saturday. Hakim Ziyech came in for Mason Mount after just over an hour of play and started the goal from another substitute, Christian Pulisic, eight minutes later.

The Premier League leader went into halftime with a comfortable lead. After less than half an hour of play, the visitors were already leading 0-2 in the King Power Stadium. After a corner by Ben Chilwell from the right, Antonio Rüdiger cleverly headed the ball backwards out of reach for Kasper Schmeichel into the left corner: 0-1. The clock showed less than fourteen minutes of playing time.

Chelsea doubled the advantageous margin less than fifteen minutes later. N’Golo Kante received the ball from Reece James and was allowed to advance unimpeded towards the penalty area, after which he placed the ball from about twenty meters in the right corner behind Schmeichel: 0-2. Leicester City barely got a grip on the game in the first act. Brendan Rodgers’ team made a hesitant impression in the back, but at the same time could not do anything offensively against the excellent playing Chelsea.

A superb save by Schmeichel on a deflected shot by Chilwell, less than ten minutes after the break, kept Leicester City somewhat in the game. Barring a header from Jamie Vardy, after preparatory work by James Maddison, the Foxes however unable to bring the tension back into the game. After just over seventy minutes of play, Pulisic closed the game. After an individual play by Ziyech on the right side of the penalty area, he scored from close range: 0-3.

Chelsea saw no fewer than three goals disallowed in the remainder of the game. The goals of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Pulisic and James were canceled due to offside of Pulisic, Chilwell and again Chilwell. Chelsea are on 29 points from 12 games, which is 6 more than Manchester City and West Ham United, who will be in action later this weekend. West Ham will play an away game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday (4 p.m. kick-off) and City will host Everton on Sunday 3 p.m. Leicester City remain twelfth with fifteen points from twelve matches.
