The Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City will be played in Porto on May 29, it reports The Times Wednesday evening. According to the newspaper, UEFA will officially announce that news on Thursday. Initially, the final was to be finished in the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, but the British government previously put Turkey on the so-called red list due to the corona virus.

Anyone entering the UK from a Red List country must be in hotel quarantine for ten days at their own expense. This would make it difficult for English supporters to attend the final. UEFA has been discussing the situation in recent days. It was initially an option to complete the final at Wembley, but UEFA and the UK government disagreed on an exemption from the quarantine obligation for UEFA personnel, sponsors, TV employees and VIPs.

Negotiations with the authorities in Portugal went more smoothly and the choice fell on FC Porto’s Estádio do Dragão. Never before has a final of a European club tournament been played in that stadium. 50,035 people will fit in Estádio do Dragão, but the ‘Dragon Stadium’ will not be completely filled. Chelsea and Manchester City are both expected to receive 4,500-6,000 tickets, which they can distribute among their supporters.
