Cesc Fábregas is not yet hanging up his kicks. The 35-year-old midfielder, who did not see his contract with AS Monaco extended, will start at Como. That club finished thirteenth in the Italian Serie B last year and thus completes a stunt with the bringing in of the Spanish playmaker. The transfer was officially confirmed on Monday.

Fabregas is in the twilight of his football career and had a very difficult season at Monaco. Partly due to lingering injuries, the 110-time Spanish international only played five times for the Monegasque, who had the midfielder under contract for three seasons. In total, Fabregas made 68 appearances for Monaco (4 goals and 9 assists). At the second level in Italy, the playmaker can show himself again.

Fabregas already announced in May that he would not stop. “This year has been so bad, I don’t want to end my career this way,” the former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea star said. So Foot. “If I’m not happy as a footballer, I’m not happy as a person. I’ve suffered a lot this year and mentally it was tough. You have to stay strong, but sometimes things happen for a reason. I’m glad this happened on my 35th and not at 25.”

Fàbregas realized then that his time in the football top was over. Signing for Como fits in with the steps he had in mind. “I’m looking for a fresh start. I want to keep playing and enjoy football. I’m open to everything and just want to have fun. Where that happens doesn’t matter.”
