Georginio Wijnaldum has agreed to a salary cut in order to make his transfer to AS Roma. That writes Il Corriere dello Sport. The Dutch midfielder also renounces receiving certain bonuses that Paris Saint-Germain, his current club, has yet to pay him. Partly because of this, white smoke can soon be expected from Paris and Rome.

An agreement between PSG and Roma was already close, but the last financial folds had yet to be ironed out. That seems to have happened now. I Giallorossia take over sixty percent of Wijnaldum’s salary and are able to do so because the midfielder himself has agreed to a reduction in his fee. This made it possible for the two clubs to reach an agreement more quickly about the distribution of the salary. PSG also cooperated in the deal because they have received a guarantee that certain bonuses no longer have to be paid to Wijnaldum.

It was already clear that the Romans will initially rent Wijnaldum for a year and that an option to buy is included in the deal. Should the the Dutch international play in more than half of the official matches of Roma next season and the formation of trainer José Mourinho reach the Champions League, that purchase option will be mandatory. The Italian club must then transfer an amount of approximately ten million euros.

Wijnaldum was also recently associated with a return to PSV, but a few months before the World Cup in Qatar, the midfielder is starting a new adventure in Rome. The veteran played for Feyenoord, Newcastle United and Liverpool earlier in his career. At Roma, last season too strong for Feyenoord in the final of the Conference League, Wijnaldum will have to deal with compatriots Rick Karsdorp and Justin Kluivert, although the latter is nominated to be sold this summer.
