Galatasaray made a huge impact on Saturday evening on a visit to Istanbul Basaksehir. The home team was the least passed team in the Süper Lig until Saturday evening, but lost no less than 0-7 against the city rivals. The highlight was Mauro Icardi’s assist at the 0-4, which enabled Kerem Aktürkoglu to score with a heel ball. The win moves Galatasaray to second place, while Basaksehir is fourth.

For the home team, former Ajax player Bertrand Traoré started in the base, while Deniz Türüc (ex-Go Ahead Eagles) started on the bench. Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk chose Icardi in the point of the attack. The striker hired from PSG was supported in the back by Dries Mertens, ex-Vitessenaar Milot Rashica started from the right flank. The visitors managed to break the spell after fifteen minutes via Kerem Aktürkoglu, who got the ball out of the box and then shot the 0-1 against the ropes.

Galatasaray was lord and master of the first act. Abdülkerim Bardakci first thought to double the margin with a header on the post, after which Icardi failed to shoot the rebound from close range. From the penalty spot, it was then hit for the Argentinian. Galatasaray was awarded a penalty after Youssouf Ndayishimiye knocked down Lucas Torreira after Léo Duarte’s sloppy ball loss. The penalty kick was convincingly shot in the top left corner by Icardi: 0-2. Buruk’s team was sitting on roses and, thanks to some fortune, was even able to go to the changing rooms with a 0-3 halftime score. Ndayishimiye touched a cross from Rashica and was responsible for a clumsy own goal.

After the break Galatasaray happily continued where it left off and after Rashica first hit the bar, it was a hit a little later. After a nice pass, Icardi first seemed to take it out himself, but instead had a nice heel. With that he reached Aktürkoglu, who found the far corner: 0-4. Moments later it was already 0-5, when Mertens was able to round easily on a pass from Rashica.

Mertens was replaced moments later by Juan Mata and the Spaniard saw Victor Nelsson make it almost 0-6, but his attempt from a free kick went just wide. Aktürkoglu made it 0-6 in the final phase, because he managed to run into a cross from Icardi. Abdulkerim Bardakci even made it 0-7 just before time, by heading in a free kick.
