Bayern Munich booked a comfortable victory in the Bundesliga on Saturday evening. The team of coach Julian Nagelsmann was 0-2 too strong for Schalke 04. Before halftime, Serge Gnabry broke the spell, after which Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting closed the game just after the interruption. With the win, title favorite Bayern strengthens its lead and is now six points clear of pursuer RB Leipzig. At Schalke, relegation concerns remain unabated. The team of trainer Thomas Reis is behind.

The Dutchmen Sepp van den Berg and Thomas Ouwejan were still missing from the home team due to injuries. The two are both dealing with ankle injuries. Simon Terrode and Dominick Drexler were the right people to take care of Schalke’s goals. On the side of Bayern, there were also no Dutchmen at the kick-off; both Matthijs de Ligt and Ryan Gravenberch had to start on the bench. Noussair Mazraoui was also reserve. The Moroccan international’s place was taken by Joshua Kimmich. Leroy Sane was given a central role in midfield, with which he had to provide the supply to striker Choupo-Moting. Sadio Mané was still injured, but has been ‘normally’ included in the World Cup selection of the Dutch opponent Senegal.

As expected, Bayern dominated in the opening phase, although the decisive pass was not forthcoming for a long time. Shortly after half an hour of play, the first big chance came from Choupo-Moting, whose header was saved by Alexander Schwolow. Nagelsmann’s team broke the spell just under ten minutes before half time. Kimmich brought the ball to Jamal Musiala, who found Gnabry with a brilliant chop. The attacker then managed to find the far corner: 0-1. A few minutes before halftime, Gnabry thought he could score his second of the evening. However, an excellent defensive play by left back Tobias Mohr prevented Gnabry from firing. On the other hand, Terrode was a toe-length short of tapping in.

After the break, Bayern quickly closed the game. Choupo-Moting received a nice long ball from Musiala, after which the striker found the bottom right corner: 0-2. Three minutes later it could have been 1-2 again, had it not been for Terrode’s encounter with Manuel Neuer. Kingsley Coman then tried with a shot that went just wide. Bayern dominated and thought they would score 0-3 via Musiala, but his goal was disallowed for offside. Gnabry was also close to the third Bavarian goal. However, the attacker saw Schwolow have a good save. The closing post was again important fifteen minutes before the end by taking a shot from Musiala. Substitute Gravenberch tried in the final minute with a shot that ended in Schwolow’s hands.
