Peter Bosz thinks that it would be too tough for Yorbe Vertessen to be back in the starting line-up for PSV on Thursday evening against SC Heerenveen. The PSV coach said this before the match ESPN. Bosz prefers Malik Tillman as a left winger. Kenneth Perez, present as an analyst in the Philips Stadium, reacts with surprise to Bosz's words.

Vertessen has to make do almost exclusively with substitute appearances this season. This is largely due to the tough competition on the flanks, from Noa Lang, Johan Bakayoko and Hirving Lozano, among others.

However, Lang and Lozano are currently injured, giving Vertessen a chance this past week. The Belgian came on against Seville and was important with two assists, and last Sunday he even showed from the first minute against Feyenoord.

Against Heerenveen, however, Bosz chooses to let Tillman start as a left winger, meaning Vertessen has to settle for a reserve role again. Bee ESPN the coach explains why he has decided to do this.

“I actually think Malik is more of someone who should be in the center of the field. But he has also shown that he can fill in excellently from the side. Vertessen is a sprinter par excellence. He played for an hour against Sevilla, and three days later he had to play 65 minutes against Feyenoord. If he had to play again now, three days later, I think it would be too much for him as a starter.”

That surprises Perez. “Okay… In December, for a fairly young player, is that too much?”, the Dane responds. Bosz: “Yes, but you should not forget that he is really a sprinter. You should not let hundred-meter runners run four races in a day.”

“He is a real sprinter, we have to be careful with that,” the trainer continues. “He is still young, and he will eventually be able to keep that up for ninety minutes. But not yet.”
