Olympique Lyon continued its winning streak in the Europa League on Thursday evening. Peter Bosz’s team also won the fifth group match, which was mainly thanks to Ryan Cherki. The top talent tormented Brondby with two goals, the last of which was of great beauty: 1-3. In another group, Fenerbahçe was eliminated by a late defeat at Olympiacos (1-0). The Turks finish third in Group D and must continue in the Conference League after the winter.

Brondby FF – Olympique Lyon 1-3
Lyon was already certain of the lead from the start, reason enough for Bosz to send a B-team into the field: only goalkeeper Anthony Lopes remained standing, the other ten names were different from Sunday against Olympique Marseille. There were few chances to score in the first half. Bröndby midfielder Mathias Greve saw a tapper slipped away at the last minute by Malo Gusto. On the other side, Tino Kadewere hit the ball wrong after a nice one-two with Mousa Dembélé, which sent it whirling just wide.

Six minutes after the break, Bröndby took the lead when a low cross from Simon Hedlund was tagged in by Mikael Uhre: 1-0. However, the Danes helped Lyon back into the game six minutes later, when Blas Riveros took way too much time clearing the ball. Ryan Cherki intervened and finished from close range: 1-1. The super talent of Lyon also provided the lead moments later with a brilliant dribble, cutting out his direct opponent behind his standing leg: 1-2. The decision was made fifteen minutes before the end thanks to Islam Slimani, who headed the ball after a pass from Lucas Paquetá: 1-3.

Olympiacos – Fenerbahce 1-0
The differences in Group D were small beforehand and that was reflected in the game, as there were chances for both sides. First Irfan Can Kahveci hit the post on behalf of Fenerbahçe with a low shot from distance, while teammate Mergim Berisha then went just wide. On the other side, Kenny Lala rammed the ball just over the goal from inside the penalty area. After the break, the chances were less. Fener midfielder Hakan Mert Yandas tried with a failed shot from the rump, while Lala hit the side net on the other side. The decision came in the last minute, when a low cross from Oleg Reabciuk was shot in by Tiquinho Soares: 1-0. The release among the Greeks, who thus qualified for the next round, was of course enormous. Ferdi Kadioglu came in for Fenerbahçe twelve minutes before the end.
