Olympique Lyon booked an important victory in the Ligue 1 on Saturday evening. In a mediocre match, the team of trainer Peter Bosz was 2-0 too strong for AS Monaco at home. Karl Toko Ekambi scored from the spot twenty minutes before time, after which Jason Denayer put an end to all uncertainty in the final minute. Among the visitors, Myron Boadu was given twenty minutes to distinguish himself, but was unable to do so. Lyon takes a giant step with the win and climbs from tenth to fifth place.

With Boadu on the reserve bench, Monaco had a particularly difficult time visiting Lyon from the first whistle. The home team scored two chances via Ekambi in the first quarter of the game. However, the first attempt with the left was stopped by Alexander Nübel, after which the goalkeeper also made an excellent save on a header. The biggest opportunity of the first half came in the name of Houssem Aouar. The midfielder had his fellow players to pick, but went for his own success and failed miserably.

AS Monaco offered very little in return in the first company and was particularly sloppy in the final phase. The team should be grateful to goalkeeper Nübel that they were not behind at half-time. Even after the interruption, Lyon had the better of the game. Aouar had the ball from close range before typing in after a nice heel by Ekambi, but he couldn’t get his foot well behind the ball. Nor could Nübel be surprised by a bet by substitute Tino Kadewere.

In the end, Lyon would still pull the longest in the final phase. After Boadu came in for Kevin Volland, Amaury Delerue put the ball on the spot. The arbiter judged a sliding by Axel Disasi towards Léo Dubois as a foul and saw how Ekambi gratefully took advantage of the opportunity: 1-0. Although Monaco never claimed a result, Denayer put an end to all uncertainty in the final minute. The defender tapped in a cross from Emerson Palmieri from close range: 2-0.
