AC Milan took the lead on Saturday evening in the battle for the Italian title. Stefano Pioli’s team defeated Hellas Verona 3-2 after an insane second half, after the visitors still had a 0-2 lead at half-time. The Milanese come to 22 points after 8 games and thus lead the Serie A. Pursuer Napoli, which is still in action on Sunday, is on 21 points. Zlatan Ibrahimovic came in fifteen minutes before the end and made his comeback after a month of injury.

Early in the game, the ball was behind Milan goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu for the first time. In the seventh minute, Ismaël Bennacer and Fikayo Tomori got in each other’s way and Miguel Veloso’s header ended up in the course of Gianluca Caprari. The mercenary of Sampdoria accomplished hard in the left corner: 0-1. Milan tried to push and still managed to create an opportunity through Daniel Maldini, but couldn’t really get a grip on the visitors. The visitors’ left wing in particular was a real plague for the defense of i Rossoneria, who capitulated again in the 24th minute.

Captain Alessio Romagnoli put Nikola Kalinic down in the box and Antonín Barák capitalized on the opportunity, doubling the margin: 0-2. Hellas was never in danger in the remainder of the first half, prompting Pioli to intervene during the break. He brought Rade Krunic and Samu Castillejo in front of Maldini and Alexis Saelemaekers in the hope of forcing a comeback. In the sixtieth minute, Milan found the connecting goal. Rafael Leão, who had already come in for the injured Ante Rebic in the first half, found the head of Olivier Giroud, who headed in nicely in the cover: 1-2. Milan then created chance after chance and was rewarded in the 76th minute: Franck Kessié shot in a penalty that was obtained after Castillejo was knocked down.

Hellas completely lost track and even ran into the ultimate horror scenario. Castillejo brought in the ball and Koray Günter hit the ball completely wrong, forcing goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò to fish for the third time. With Ibrahimovic in the ranks, AC Milan tried to further expand the score in the final phase, but nothing changed. The Milanese win their fourth home game in a row, which they have not been able to do since the successful 2004/05 season.
