Jan Boskamp and Giovanni van Bronckhorst have nothing good to say about João Cancelo after FC Barcelona's elimination in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Catalans won the first leg 2-3 in the Parc des Princes, but lost 1-4 at home during the return on Tuesday evening.

A red card for Ronald Araújo proved to be a turning point in the return match. Former Barça winger Ousmane Dembélé canceled out Raphinha's opening goal, after which PSG cruised to a big victory after the break.

Cancelo disadvantaged his team prior to the 1-3 of the Parisians. Dembélé let the ball jump meters from his foot, but when he tried to make something of his action, he was knocked down by the Portuguese wing attacker, who made a tackle far too rashly.

Romanian referee István Kovács pointed to the spot, after which it was a breeze for Kylian Mbappé to score his seventh Champions League goal of the season.

“This defense is so worthless,” Boskamp says during the afterthought RTL 7. “Cancelo doesn't even have the ball. How can you use such a tackle? Dembélé goes away from the goal, how can you start a sliding like a chip? Just stand there and walk with him, I don't know what that guy was up to.”

Presenter Humberto Tan then laughs and asks Boskamp: “Do you call that fries?” “If, as a trainer, you have such a pipo in your team, then I call him a chipper,” Boskamp responds.

Van Bronckhorst is also not impressed by Cancelo. “He often does something in matches that no one expects, that he loses his way for a moment. You can see that he also regularly wants to pass the ball with the outside of his foot. At Manchester City, Cancelo had a love-hate relationship with Guardiola, I think that's because of moments like this. He always makes mistakes in big matches.”
