Borussia Dortmund qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday evening at the expense of Atlético Madrid. In Spain, coach Edin Terzic's team lost 2-1, but thanks to an excellent performance at Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund won 4-2. Ian Maatsen was given a starting spot and was one of the goalscorers. Donyell Malen was injured and did not play. Paris Saint-Germain is the opponent in the semi-final.

Borussia Dortmund looked for attack from the first minute of play. The driven attacking game immediately created a great opportunity for Marcel Sabitzer in the third minute, who failed to finish from close range. On the other side, Álvaro Morata was able to open the score, although he also lacked sharpness in finishing.

After failed attempts by Füllkrug and Julian Brandt in the first fifteen minutes, Dortmund did find the opening goal in the 34th minute of play. Goalkeeper Jan Oblak seemed to correctly process Brandt's shot, but he then hit the ball into his own goal: 1-0.

Five minutes later it was Maatsen's turn. After a pass from Sabitzer, the Dutchman cut through the Madrid defense, after which he found the bottom right corner with a hard slide: 2-0. It was his first Champions League goal ever. A few minutes after the break, Atlético scored remontada in.

The 2-1 came in the 48th minute, when Mats Hummels unfortunately put the ball into his own goal. After a few warning shots and more than an hour of play, Simeone's team found the equalizer. After a carom in front of Gregor Kobel's goal, the ball landed at the feet of Ángel Correa, who shot in hard: 2-2.

Dortmund quickly recovered, as the advantageous margin of two goals was restored within ten minutes of the equalizer. On a pass from Sabitzer, Niclas Füllkrug made it 3-2 with a header in the right corner, after which Sabitzer himself made it 4-2. The midfielder shot hard into the bottom right corner after a falling ball.

In the remainder of the match, both teams continued to look for another goal. Both Füllkrug and Sabitzer came close to 5-2, but the duo lacked fortune in the finish.
