Mauricio Pochettino and Graham Potter are bookies favorites to succeed Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea manager. On Wednesday morning, the English top club announced that Tuchel has been fired on the spot and that a new head coach will be presented soon.

Pochettino has been without a club since he was sacked by Paris Saint-Germain this summer. The Argentine coach had been under fire at the elite club for some time and left Paris after a year and a half. Pochettino joined the PSG board at the beginning of July to evaluate the 2021/22 season, after which it was decided in good consultation to end the collaboration. He was succeeded among the Parisians by Christophe Galtier. Pochettino already gained the necessary experience in the Premier League as manager of Tottenham Hotspur between 2014 and 2019.

The other top candidate to join Chelsea is 47-year-old Potter, who has been manager of Brighton & Hove Albion since 2019. Potter finished ninth in the Premier League last season with the Seagulls and the new season has also started energetically. Brighton gave Erik ten Hag and Manchester United a painful defeat at Old Trafford (1-2) last month and are in fourth place with thirteen points after six competition matches.

Brendon Rogers (Leicester City), Zinedine Zidane, Diego Simeone (Atlético Madrid), Massimiliano Allegri (Juventus) and Roberto Martínez (Belgium) are seen by the bookmakers as outsiders for the open vacancy. The 1-0 defeat on a visit to Dinamo Zagreb turned out to be the last straw for the board of the Blues to fire Tuchel. In addition to the defeat against Dinamo Zagreb, they also lost twice in a competition. Chelsea lost to Leeds United (3-0) and Southampton (2-1) last month and currently occupies sixth place in the Premier League with ten points from six matches.
