A relief for some, a disappointment for others: so-called ‘begging plates’ are no longer allowed in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Ajax has decided to do this, the club confirms Ajax Life. The signs have become a real phenomenon in recent years, but the Amsterdammers have now decided to draw a line.

In last Saturday’s game for the Johan Cruijff Scale (against PSV, 3-5 loss), the necessary signs were removed from the stands. That turned out to be a prelude to further tightening of the rules, as the signs are no longer allowed at all. In recent years Ajax has seen a large increase in the number of signs on which supporters ask for shirts or other clothing from players. Although the Amsterdammers realize that the ban can lead to disappointment among supporters, the current champion of the Netherlands wants to stop the signs before the phenomenon spreads further.

Supporters of various clubs are regularly dissatisfied with the demand for match shirts. In addition to charm plates, field stormers have also been a growing phenomenon in recent years. For example, (often young) supporters run onto the field to get a shirt from their favorite club or player. For example, the then thirteen-year-old Amin received national attention in September 2021 when he ran onto the field during an international match against Montenegro for a selfie with Memphis Depay. The boy was later fined 450 euros and a five-year stadium ban.
