Feyenoord has reached an agreement in principle with San Jose Earthquakes about the transfer of Marcos López, Peruvian journalist Aldair Santa Cruz Padilla reported Monday afternoon. The news is confirmed by the Dutch sources of the usually well-imported 1908.nl. The left-back will soon come to the Netherlands to complete the transfer. The arrival of top target Matías Viña, the Uruguayan left back of AS Roma, is a lot more difficult according to 1908.nl.

Saturday knew The Athletic to report that Feyenoord would have offered an amount of about one to two million euros for López. The 22-year-old left leg is in Major League Soccer only until December 2022, making San Jose willing to cooperate in the transfer. Feyenoord has been looking for a replacement since Tyrell Malacia left for Manchester United. Ian Maatsen chose Burnley and Dávid Hancko of Sparta Prague seems unfeasible at the moment, so that Feyenoord has now ended up with López. This means that Arne Slot has one of the two desired left backs.

López started his professional career in his home country of Peru and made the switch to the MLS in 2019. So far, López has made 74 official duels on behalf of San Jose. He also played twenty international matches for Peru. Whether he will also make many match minutes at Feyenoord depends on the Rotterdam club and their other transfers. Slot indicated several times that he expected more left backs. In the game against Vitesse next Sunday, López is still missing. The work permit cannot be arranged before that time.

The arrival of Viña is currently still far away according to 1908.nl. The medium reports Monday afternoon that some snags have come up, which does not mean that a deal is definitively off the track. The 24-year-old Viña made 36 official matches for AS Roma last season, including 26 in Serie A. Just before the Conference League final won against Feyenoord, the Uruguayan came in as a substitute for Rick Karsdorp. Feyenoord would like to rent Viña with an option to buy.
