Bayern Munich managed to avoid the first defeat of this Bundesliga season on Saturday thanks to a great comeback against RB Leipzig (2-2). The reigning national champions faced a 2-0 deficit halfway through, but fought back well after the break thanks to, among other things, a penalty from Harry Kane. There was a starting place for Xavi Simons at Leipzig, while Matthijs de Ligt was missing from the match selection at Bayern due to a knee injury.

Leipzig started in a 4-2-2-2 system, with Simons providing the attacking impetus in the home club’s midfield together with Emil Forsberg. Yussuf Poulsen and Loïs Openda were the strikers. On the Bayern side, Thomas Tuchel opted for the necessary attacking intentions. Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala and Kingsley Coman had to provide the supply to Kane. There were no other surprises der Rekordmeisterwhich again started at the back with Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano in the heart of the defense.

It was not a very good start for Bayern, as Openda made it 1-0 after twenty minutes of play. The stabbed attacker was too quick for Kim in a sprint duel, and then also outwitted Sven Ulreich in the short corner. Only five minutes later those Roten Bullen cheer again. This time Openda was the leader and Castello Lukeba the finisher from inside the sixteen: 2-0. A big blow for Bayern, which saw its undefeated status in jeopardy and could do little to repair the damage in Leipzig before halftime.

The visitors were given hope when Benjamin Henrichs made hands with a free kick and the ball ended up on the spot after a VAR check. It was then Kane who made it 2-1 from eleven meters. The comeback was complete when Sané managed to find the net after seventy minutes of play after a quick counter from Bayern. Leipzig tried in the final phase with attempts by Simons, among others, but there was no winner in the entertaining top match in the Red Bull Arena.
