Barcelona has made Memphis Depay an improved offer, Fabrizio Romano reported Monday afternoon. The Catalans want to attract and secure the the Dutch international transfer-free until the summer of 2024. Barcelona does not want to miss out on Depay after Georginio Wijnaldum, which has made the club management decide to put an improved offer on the table. The Catalans hope to sign the attacker as soon as possible.

For a long time it seemed that trainer Ronald Koeman would have three the Dutch internationals at his disposal next season. After Frenkie de Jong, Depay and Wijndalum would also play for Barcelona. Everything seemed in order, until Paris Saint-Germain suddenly snatched Wijnaldum in front of Barcelona. According to various French media, the midfielder can earn a better salary in Paris and he has made the decision. PSG has not yet confirmed Wijnaldum’s arrival. Barcelona do not want to be trumped by competitors again and so Depay has been made a better offer.

It has long been no secret that Barcelona is interested in Depay’s services. The Spanish superpower has already made several attempts to release the attacker during the weeks at Olympique Lyon, but previously did not have the financial resources. Due to the expiring contract, Depay can now make the transfer free of charge. Koeman again asked for the arrival of Depay last January, but was rejected at the time, as Barcelona were in the middle of the new presidential elections and did not want to take any risk in attracting a player who would be transfer-free six months later.

More soon.
