Barcelona has extended Iñaki Peña’s contract until mid-2026, the club reports through official channels. The contract includes a buyout clause of no less than 400 million euros. The 24-year-old reserve goalkeeper, who was stuck in the Spotify Camp Nou until mid-2023, has made three appearances for the first team of Barcelona to date.

Peña started his football career with Alicante CF, the team from his hometown. At the age of ten he was scouted by Villarreal, where he would stay for two years before Barcelona signed up for the talent. During his stay at La Masía, Peña eventually rose through the Under 19s in the 2018/19 season to the reserves team, Barça Atlètic. He played 63 times for that team.

Partly due to competition from Marc-André Ter Stegen, Peña went on a rental basis at Galatasaray in January 2022 looking for playing minutes. The Spaniard made ten appearances in the remainder of that season Cim Bomb: eight in the Süper Lig and two in the Europa League. Peña returned to Barcelona in the summer of 2022, where he has been assured of a place in the first team since January 3. In November 2022, he made his debut for Barcelona during the Champions League win against Viktoria Plzen (2-4).

Peña has since also played twice in the Copa del Rey. He was on the field for 120 minutes against CF Intercity (3-4 win after extra time), while he also played the entire match against AD Ceuta (0-5). From the quarterfinals, Ter Stegen took over from Peña. Barcelona would eventually strand in the semi-finals of the cup tournament against Real Madrid.
