Steven Berghuis is ‘much too modest’ at Ajax, according to Marciano Vink. The the Dutch international made the much-discussed switch from Feyenoord to Ajax in the past transfer period. In his first weeks in Amsterdam he did not leave a lasting impression, while Berghuis’ competitor Antony only needed five minutes to open the score in his first starting place against Vitesse.

After the Brazilian’s opening goal, the camera turned to Berghuis, who applauded his competitor’s goal. “He has behaved much too modestly until now,” Vink told the NOS. “While Berghuis is not at all in my opinion.” Fifteen minutes before the end of the game, Berghuis came in. He replaced Davy Klaassen against Vitesse and came in as an attacking midfielder, while David Neres came in on the right flank for Antony.

Klaassen is probably missing on Saturday evening due to groin complaints and Berghuis may be his replacement in the role of attacking midfielder. Vink believes that the the Dutch international should eventually compete with Antony. “Berghuis must continue to concentrate on the position at the front right, in which he has proven himself at Feyenoord as one of the best players in the Eredivisie. But at Ajax you don’t buy anything for that status, you just have to perform there every week.”

According to Vink, it is important for Berghuis with which right back he plays together at Ajax. Ten Hag prefers Noussair Mazraoui for the time being. “At Ajax, Berghuis might be better off playing with a type like Devyne Rensch. But of course he has no influence on that,” says Vink. “So what he has to do is seize his chance. And then don’t let go. At Ajax you don’t get anything for free, you have to bite the bullet. It’s up to Berghuis, he really has it.”

Rensch is expected to start in Zwolle (6.45 pm) as left back. The two Argentine internationals Nicolás Tagliafico and Lisandro Martínez only returned from their international obligations on Friday afternoon and were missing from the final training. The Telegraph expect the two to sit on the couch. Daley Blind therefore probably plays in the center of the defence.
