Latest update:

AS Roma has strengthened itself with Angeliño. The former PSV player, who was loaned to Galatasaray by RB Leipzig in recent months, has successfully passed his medical examination. Angeliño will play on loan until the end of the season i Giallorossiwho have also negotiated an option to purchase.

“When I heard the word 'Roma', I didn't hesitate for a moment,” Angeliño told Roma club channels. “Today I am proud to be part of a great club with an incredible history and a team full of champions. I am happy to meet the coach (Daniele De Rossi, ed.) and my new teammates and put myself at their disposal to establish.”

“With Angeliño we welcome a fully mature player,” says outgoing technical director Tiago Pinto. “We believe his technical skills, combined with his wealth of experience in Europe's most competitive leagues, can match and enhance the potential of our squad.”

Angeliño hopes to play more in Rome. The 27-year-old left wing defender made nineteen appearances for Galatasaray in the first half of the season, but has mainly been on the bench lately without coming off.

This had to do with a clause in the lease contract between Leipzig and Galatasaray. If Angeliño had played twenty games or more, the purchase option worth six million euros would be automatically exercised. That amount was too much for Galatasaray, but new negotiations yielded nothing.

At Roma, the wing defender may get more playing minutes. In the Italian capital, where José Mourinho has now been succeeded by De Rossi, he will mainly have to compete with Leonardo Spinazzola and Nicola Zalewski.

Roma will face Feyenoord twice in February in the interim round of the Europa League. The Rotterdam team will host Roma on February 15, while the reigning national champions of the Netherlands will play in Italy on February 22.

PSV

Angeliño played for PSV in the 2018/19 season. The Eindhoven team took over the left back from Manchester City in the summer of 2018 for 5.5 million euros, before the English top club bought him back in 2019 for 12 million euros.

In his one year in Eindhoven, Angeliño played 43 matches for PSV. The wingback made a big impression and earned a transfer back to Manchester.

Angeliño never became a regular at the Etihad Stadium and so a transfer away from Manchester City awaited. In the winter of 2020, the defender was loaned to Leipzig, before the Germans took him over permanently in 2021. Before the loan to Galatasaray, Angeliño also played on loan for TSG Hoffenheim.
