Xavi Simons is currently not allowed to play with the first team of Paris Saint-Germain ‘for penalty’, as we know ASH to report. The eighteen-year-old midfielder is in possession of an expiring contract in Paris and talks about a new contract have proved fruitless for the time being. As long as no agreement is found about a new contract, Simons will no longer get playing minutes in PSG’s main squad, according to the Spanish sports newspaper.
As a result, Simons has to make do with matches in the Under-19 of PSG for the time being. For example, he excelled in the Youth League match between PSG and RB Leipzig (3-0) on Tuesday afternoon with a goal and an assist. “With me he is a player who does not give up and always works hard,” said Zoumana Camara, PSG Under-19 coach, after the game. “He is decisive, a good player. He is more of a leader on the field than in the locker room. He still has to improve on that, because he has been in France for a while and speaks the language well.”
“His goal is not to be with me anymore. If he continues like this, I don’t think he will stay long. I don’t think his situation is bothering him. He does his job and comes in every day with a smile. I don’t feel like he’s a player who thinks about that a lot,” Camara refers to Simons’ contractual situation. ASH claims that the youth international of the Dutch is indeed hindered by the fact that he has not yet extended his expiring contract in Paris.
Simons does not have to count on playing minutes in the first team as long as he has not extended his contract. Last season Simons was part of the match selection several times and he came to two official matches, as a substitute against Caen in the Coupe de France and against Strasbourg in the Ligue 1. During this season, however, Simons was never on the bench and trainer Mauricio Pochettino would mainly prefer a different type of midfielder.
Spanish journalist Adrián Sánchez – associated with the Catalan television channel 8tv – reported on Tuesday that Simons had his sights set on a return to Barcelona, where he played in the youth academy between 2010 and 2019 and left to sign with PSG. Agent Mino Raiola is said to have investigated the possibilities of a return to Spain in vain. It has reportedly been remembered in Barcelona that Simons chose a move to PSG two years ago over a longer stay in Spain. Moreover, Simons is not immediately seen as a reinforcement for the first team of Barcelona due to the presence of Nico González, Gavi and Pedri.
