Gabriel dos Santos Magalhães was brutally robbed in August. The Daily Mail writes that a total of three men followed the Arsenal defender to his house, where they tried to steal his car, watch and mobile phone from him in the garage. The 26-year-old man who threatened Gabriel with a baseball bat has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Gabriel and a friend were on their way home from a night out. The robbers followed them and CCTV footage shows Gabriel being approached in his garage as soon as he gets out of his car. A man threatens him with an iron baseball bat and wants his watch, mobile phone and the keys to his Mercedes worth fifty thousand euros. At first Gabriel seems to cooperate by handing over his watch and car keys.

However, a struggle ensues, with Gabriel hitting his robber in the face and grabbing his arm. The robber manages to free himself and then runs away with the two other perpetrators – a man who was also in the garage and a man who made sure that the electric gate did not close, both of whom were not caught by the way. The now convicted perpetrator with the baseball bat lost his cap, which allowed him to be arrested on the basis of DNA.

The judge ruled that it could not be proven that Gabriel was specifically chosen as the victim because he is a well-known football player. “But it was realized that the victim was rich. Fortunately, due to the brave action of the victims, the consequences were limited.” Daily Mail the judge who imposed a prison sentence of five years. The perpetrator – a frequent offender – still had a 56-month suspended prison sentence for possession of heroin with the intention of selling it.
