Arsenal sees Jorginho as a possible reinforcement, it reports Sky Sports. The Londoners see the Chelsea midfielder as an alternative to their top targets Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar, both of which are a lot more expensive. Jorginho is on the nomination to leave Chelsea, although he had a starting place in the first two league matches of the new season.

Chelsea paid € 57 million to Napoli two years ago for the services of Jorginho. The 28-year-old Italian has played an important role in Chelsea midfield in recent seasons, but has never achieved undisputed status. The Londoners are willing to listen to offers for Jorginho to free up financial space for Declan Rice’s arrival. The West Ham United midfielder is the last major target Chelsea has this transfer window.

Sky Sports does not mention an asking price for Jorginho, who has been fixed for another three years at Stamford Bridge. The 23-time international was also close to a transfer to Manchester City in 2018. There, Mikel Arteta, currently the manager of Arsenal, was assistant to Pep Guardiola at the time. Arteta was one of the strong supporters of Jorginho’s arrival at City at the time.

It is now an open secret that Arsenal is after Partey from Atlético Madrid and Aouar from Olympique Lyon. Also the Gunners first have to sell in order to pay for a new player. Arsenal are in far-reaching negotiations with Atlético about Lucas Torreira. The intention is that the midfielder from Uruguay will initially go to the Wanda Metropolitano on a rental basis, with a mandatory option to buy.

That offers Arsenal the spending margin to go for a new midfielder. Atlético does not want to cooperate in the departure of the 27-year-old Partey, but the midfielder can leave for fifty million euros due to his escape clause. Lyon’s asking price for the 22-year-old Aouar is even higher at sixty million euros.
