Arsenal supporters are furious with Rob Holding. The 27-year-old center defender signed the goal of honor on behalf of Wednesday evening the Gunners visiting title rivals Manchester City during a painful defeat. Holding was responsible for the 3-1 in the final phase and seemed to celebrate his goal with a wink, which did not go down well with the fans.

Arsenal eventually lost 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium against a mighty Manchester City. Mikel Arteta’s team was not involved at all and had to watch how the Citizens managed to take an important step towards the next title in the Premier League. Holding, who failed to contain Erling Braut Haaland, scored an honorary goal in the 86th minute and subsequently incurred the wrath of the Arsenal supporters.

The defender winked after he scored, after which he was completely finished off on social media. “Rob Holding with a shameless wink after scoring an honorary goal, despite being played redshank all night and costing us the decision in the title race. You really can’t make this up!” wrote one Twitter user. “Holding was butchered by Haaland, he was outplayed time after time and has the nerve to wink after making it 3-1. And we compete for the title with this clown. What a stupid footballer,” wrote another.

Holding has made fifteen appearances in the Premier League this season. In the last weeks of the season, the man-decker serves as a direct replacement for William Saliba, who sustained a back injury in the lost Europa League match with Sporting Portugal (1-2) in mid-March. With Holding in the base, Arsenal was unable to win the last four league matches. After draws against Liverpool (2-2), Arsenal (2-2) and West Ham United (3-3), the Londoners suffered a hard defeat against City on Wednesday.
