Latest update:

Givairo Read will become the next youth player who will be a permanent member of Feyenoord 1, it is reported 1908.nl based on a leaked photo. The seventeen-year-old defender has been given his own place in the dressing room of the Rotterdam national champion. Read was previously assigned jersey number 26, with which he made his debut in the Europa League match against AS Roma (1-1).

The older youth players at Feyenoord are all assigned a high shirt number when they face the Under 21 team, in alphabetical order. For example, midfielder Gjivai Zechiël made his debut with shirt number 64, after which he was promoted to 24. Promising talents such as Antoni Milambo and Leo Sauer have previously experienced the same thing.

Read skipped that step, as it became apparent during his debut against Roma. The seventeen-year-old right back immediately played with number 26 on his back. Things are moving very quickly for the Amsterdammer, as he has now also been given his own place in the dressing room of Feyenoord's first team.

Trainer Arne Slot seems to be convinced of Read's qualities, who can prove himself in the main squad in the coming months. It is not yet known whether the young right-footer will be part of the selection for the away match in Rome, although there is a good chance. Read was in Feyenoord's match selection on Sunday against RKC Waalwijk (1-0 win).

The very young (June 2, 2006) Read transferred from FC Volendam to Feyenoord on a free transfer last summer. He had already made his debut in the Eredivisie on behalf of the Eelboeren. In South Rotterdam he first started in the Under 18 team of coach Robin van Persie.

In August, Read was immediately named Academy Player of the Month. He then also left an excellent impression in the UEFA Youth League, after which Slot invited him to Feyenoord's training camp in Marbella.

Since then, Read has been training with the Feyenoord selection. After the match against Roma, Slot praised his pupil. “He has some qualities that I like. He is fast and not afraid to play. The latter is not unimportant if you suddenly have to enter De Kuip.”
