Last week Franck Ribéry suddenly put an end to his football career and that made former teammate Arjen Robben decide to put a touching message on his Instagram account. In it he thanked the Frenchman for the great cooperation at Bayern Munich. The 39-year-old Ribery played for Salernitana this season, but due to a persistent knee injury he decided to stop.

Ribery and Robben made a furore for years at Bayern. The successful wingers were a feared duo called ‘Robbéry’. The Dutchman and Frenchman played together in Bavaria for a whole decade. Robben already stopped playing football in the summer of 2021 and, after the news that Ribéry also stopped, turned to his former teammate on social media.

“It was always a pleasure to have you on and off the pitch! You should be really proud of everything you have achieved! It was and will always be an honor to be part of ‘Robbery’. Enjoy the time with your family and see you soon!”, was Robben’s moving message.

In Bavarian service, the duo became German champions seven times and won the Champions League and four DFB Pokals. The German Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the World Cup for club teams were also taken. Ribéry started his career in his home country with Boulogne, before wearing the shirts of Olympique Alès, Stade Brest and FC Metz. He ended up at Bayern via Galatasaray and Olympique Marseille. Ribery made a total of 81 appearances for France, scoring 16 goals. He eventually moved to Fiorentina and closed the Frenchman at Salernitana.
