If Tanguy Ndombélé leaves Tottenham Hotspur next week, Sofyan Amrabat may be brought in as his successor. Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the 25-year-old Fiorentina midfielder is one of the players on the list of possible replacements for Ndombélé. At the same time, there are more candidates in the picture and Tottenham will make a decision next week.

Ndombélé was presented at Tottenham in 2019 as the most expensive purchase in club history. An amount of sixty million euros was transferred to Olympique Lyon for this. After two and a half years, however, it now seems that the disappointing employment of the seven-time French international in England is coming to an end. Ndombélé has been training separately from the A-selection for a while and has been explicitly linked to a switch to AS Roma or Paris Saint-Germain in recent days.

“I don’t talk about Ndombélé because he doesn’t play at our club. PSG is open to progress, to improvement. Everything is open and there is still a week to go,” said Mauricio Pochettino on the rumors about Ndombélé. The current PSG trainer was a strong supporter of his arrival as manager of Tottenham in 2019. At the same time, Ndombélé would also see a transfer to PSG himself. Les Parisiens are still in talks with Tottenham about a loan period for the midfielder.

Tottenham is therefore already preparing for a scenario in which Ndombélé – who hardly gets to play since Antonio Conte took over from Nuno Espírito Santo – makes a transfer. Amrabat is one of the candidates to accommodate his departure. The Moroccan international, currently active in the Africa Cup, has been playing for Fiorentina since the summer of 2020, which paid almost twenty million euros to take him over from Hellas Verona.

Last season, Amrabat played 33 games, but since the arrival of trainer Vincenzo Italiano, he generally has to make do with a reserve role. The former player of FC Utrecht, Feyenoord and Club Brugge, among others, came to 290 minutes of play spread over 12 matches in this football season, in which he was only 2 times a basic player. His contract with Fiorentina runs until the summer of 2024.
